Being a Jack of all trades, master of some, I am involved in many different data solution projects. From
data engineering to data science problems, I make sure to listen properly in orderto understand and
assist my partners in developing their dream solutions.
During my last project, I led a team of data scientists and developed a Hijack panic button model
classifierfor a vehicle tracking system company. Due to the speed requirements, we had to deploy our
ML model using Spark and Kafka Streaming.
• As a Principal Data Scientist and ML Engineer, I led a team of data scientists during many projects.
This included the development and deployment of a state-of-the-art FNOL (First Loss of
Notification) classification model for a leading vehicle tracking system company. My goal was dual:
ensuring that the client’s needs were addressed by aligning the business requirements with the
technical agenda, in addition to guiding the team, designing and implementing the solution.
• As a Data Engineer, I was involved with the Client Profile team of a leading South African bank.
Deployed an elastic Airflow clusterfrom scratch using Kubernetes and implemented new
workflows into theirinfrastructure. Itreduced cloud expenses and improved past performances.
In addition, we migrated their massive-scale data engineering and collaborative data science
platform from Azure HDInsight to Databricks. The design of the solution used advanced
technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, Airflow and Spark. Another project dealt with the
development of a streaming platform using Kafka and Spark Structured Streaming for an online
betting company.
• As a Senior Data Scientist, I collaborated with the credit-granting department of a large South
African bank. We implemented Deep Learning models to automate credit labeling in orderto help
branch managers speed up the process of granting credits. This allowed the bank to drastically
reduce the cost of granting credit. In conjunction, we also developed a Migration model
(recalculates the probability of defaulting 6 months afterthe client has been granted the credit)
and an online credit automation system.
As a Data Scientist, I contributed to the development of a threat detection platform for governmental
entities, based on a Sentiment Analysis model. Using large amounts of text data (SMS and emails), this
model leveraged advanced NLP techniques such as pre-trained word vectors, CNN and RNN algorithms.
As a Junior Data Scientist consultant for Airbus Group in the supply chain department, I have developed
an ML model which predicted whether or not a future delivered product will arrive late or deficient.
